ya kto? kitaika?

So, i couldn't find a picture of this one kid from the orphanages, but i'll look for one.

He decided that i was chinese, much like most of the kids at that orphanage. they just can't get it in their mind that there's something other than chinese out there that have eyes like mine. so no matter how often i say korean, they repeat chinese to me.

anyway, back to this one, he told me i was chinese and i can't speak english. he himself is in the beginning stages of learning english, so he decided that he needed to test whether i knew english or not. so, he led me around the orphanage and pointed out colors and things he knew in english, and asked me what they were. so i'd let him know in english...blue, yellow, red....tree, flower... he would just say, yeah yeah, ok.

so in the end, he wasn't convinced. i'm sure he still thinks that whenever i speak not russian or ukrainian, that i'm speaking chinese. i don't know. what do you think?

Having the Flu

Ah, how difficult sometimes it is when you're sick.

I was sick, and I guess you could still categorize me as in the process of getting better...not quite there yet. But although this isn't an adventure, it's something that is like the complete opposite of an adventure...devoid of any adventure, and that in itself is an adventure.

I got to explore the infinite chasms of my own room for a whole week! Through most of the week, I was sleeping...sleeping in, taking both morning and afternoon naps. I guess you could say I was also exploring the black holes of my very eyelids!

Anyway, it all started with a horrible sore throat after I returned from my weekend in Kyiv. I honestly thought that I had torn a hole in my esophagus, and was contemplating the reality of that actual scenario. I don't think my throat had ever hurt that badly before! So, I went to the hospital where a "local" here knew a good doctor. So, we waited and waited. There was no real line. If parents come with kids, they're automatically moved to the front of the non existent line. But finally, I got in to see a very pleasant woman doctor who took one look at my throat and said, "you have a wound in your throat!" so, I don't exactly know what this wound is, but she prescribed some sort of shot of antibiotics that I had to take not in my arm, and a whole bunch of pills, one of which I had to cut in half to injest because it looked like it was for a horse or something! But she is certainly a doctor who knows her stuff, because by the next day, my throat felt so much better!

But then came the fevers and the shakes and the incessant need to take numerous naps. I seriously think I'm a complete wuss when I'm sick. I was also thinking about how much I'd rather die than have the flu, and how I really wouldn't like to die just to avoid the flu, but how much better it would be if my mom was around to take care of me.

So, now, over a week later, I'm back in the world. I don't even take my naps any more, which is too bad, because I really enjoyed them!

What can I tell you about my room? well, sometimes it seems too cold, and then sometimes it seems too hot, sometimes like it's gigantic, and sometimes like it's way too small, there's always a mess on the floor, and I think that's partly (or wholly) from me, and my desk never looks neat for more than 10 minutes, right after I've cleaned it.

What can I tell you about my eyelids? Sometimes they show movies!!!!!

:)
